3 Doors Down Frontman Discloses Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis

3 Doors Down’s Brad Arnold Reveals Stage 4 Kidney Cancer Diagnosis

Brad Arnold, lead vocalist of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, has disclosed that he is battling stage four kidney cancer.

In a video posted to Instagram, the 46-year-old shared that he has been diagnosed with clear cell renal carcinoma, which has metastasized to his lung. “That’s stage four, and that’s not real good,” Arnold said.

3 Doors Down gained widespread popularity in the early 2000s with chart-topping hits including Kryptonite, Here Without You, and It’s Not My Time. The band has sold over 13 million albums in the United States.

In a caption accompanying the video, Arnold referenced the band’s 2008 hit, writing: “Now, I believe It’s Not My Time is really my song. This’ll be a battle — so we need our prayer warriors!”

Rising out of Mississippi in the late 1990s, 3 Doors Down burst onto the national scene with their breakout hit Kryptonite, which climbed to No. 3 on the U.S. charts in 2000. Their debut album, The Better Life, went on to become the 11th best-selling album in the country that year.

The band sustained their success with chart-topping singles like Here Without You and When I'm Gone in 2002, and later earned No. 1 albums with Seventeen Days in 2005 and a self-titled release in 2008. In 2017, they performed at the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

In a recent video shared with fans, lead singer and drummer Brad Arnold announced he has been diagnosed with stage four clear cell renal carcinoma—the most common and serious form of kidney cancer, which has spread to his lung.

“You know what, we serve almighty God, and he can overcome anything,” Arnold said in the video. “So I have no fear. I am really, sincerely not scared of it at all.”

The diagnosis has forced the band to cancel their summer tour. “We’re sorry for that,” Arnold said, before adding with a smile, “And I think it’s time for me to maybe go listen to It’s Not My Time a little bit, right?”

He also asked fans for prayers and support as he begins his battle, signing off with faith and gratitude.
